After 2 months spent in the region, Julia pond says that Colombia was an amazing and incredible experience. But still, she added, the users of Trips.com put it in the list of most dangerous countries for clear reasons: illegal drugs trading, violence, kidnapping, and domestic insurgency.

Trip.com’s advice for how to stay safe:

• Never answer a phone call when you are out there walking or just pull it out for the sake of checking any WhatsApp or phone messages. Also, don’t expect to sit on the terrace of a restaurant and hang your handbag to your chair. Oh no, definitely a big NO.

• Never take a taxi from the street. You have no idea how good or bad the reputation the company has. So always book one from a reputable and trusted company. Your hotel can help you with that.

• Avoid walking alone when it’s dark otherwise be ready for catcalling and all other different forms of street harassment.

• Don’t be stingy, if you have to pay more money to take a safe bus at night then do it.
