Human rights keep on deteriorating even five years after US troops have left Iraq. According to Amnesty International, the Government security forces, government-allied militias, and the armed group Islamic State (IS) have been in charge of all the war crimes and human rights abuses in the country during 2016.

The government continues in its destructive path, randomly attacking civilians under areas controlled by IS in addition to committing unlawful executions.

From its side, IS continues killing and abducting women for sexual slavery. Courts carry on applying death penalties on charges related to terrorism.

Out of the 163 countries on GPI, Syria has become the most dangerous country on earth after the Arab spring. Amnesty International states that the government has been arbitrarily attacking civilians by bombarding their residential areas and medical facilities using artillery, mortars, barrel bombs, and even chemical weapons.

The government went farther in torturing civilians; they forced lengthy sieges to make sure that they are fully trapped and wouldn’t be able to receive food or medical necessities.

An estimate of 250.000 Syrians died, 4.6 million were forced to become international refugees and 7.6 million people moved around the country trying to escape death and famine.
