wikiHowDecent hotels always provide toiletries: bar soap, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, mouthwash, and even slippers. There is certainly no reason why you bring your own unless you are that picky about the brands you use back home.
In that case, you can opt for travel size bottles and pour your favorite products in them. Or call your hotel in advance and check what items they provide and possibly the brand they use. This way you only carry what you need and avoid carrying too much weight. If you are planning on going camping then things would alter and travel size bottles would be ideal.
