Egypt is at the top of the list. It has been declared by both the US State Department and the Trip.com that Egypt is one of the most dangerous and unsafe destinations a woman can travel to on her own. The latter declarations, don’t obligate female travelers to avoid the country entirely but rather urge them to take necessary precautions while they are there.

Egypt is such a beautiful and interesting country with many fantastic sites to explore and many activities to do. The people are very hospitable and welcoming. Still, it’s always important to keep in mind that Egypt has been targeted many times before by multiple deadly terrorist attacks (ISIS).

The editorial director of Trip.com, Julia Pond, insists on the idea that the risk is there but this shouldn’t be interpreted as a ‘’No go’’. She added saying that a country with political issues doesn’t necessarily mean one hundred percent of the risk.

Despite the fact of the lower rate Egypt was ranked with, it is still given the number of 5.5 on a scale of 1 to 10 by female users of The Trip.Com

Therefore, Trip.com offers you some couple of advice you should follow in order to remain safe:

• Harassment is something you cannot escape while in Egypt. Men can be sometimes aggressive and even brave enough to touch you here and there especially if you are in crowded public places.

A female Trip.com’s user shared a note with us saying that during her vacation in Egypt, she noticed that her tourist guide avoids taking her to markets. Because he knew that the merchants wouldn’t think twice and would undoubtedly harass her if she didn’t stop at their shop.

• Please respect the tradition and the culture of the place too. I know you are free to do whatever you like and most importantly wear whatever makes you feel comfortable. But for your own safety, try to cover your chest, legs, and arms. Also, try wearing loose and not tight clothes that shape your body. If you can cover your hair too then it would be just perfect.

• Culture differs from one place to another. Eye contact in Egypt means only one thing which is flirting. So, next time when you are in Egypt you would better wear sunglasses. It’s really helpful.

• Your ultimate desire when traveling on your own is getting lost and tasting the sweetness of finding your way out alone without the help of anybody else. In contrary, according to some female travelers who shared their experience with us on Trip.com, It’s better to sign up for a private small tour. This way you’d have a higher chance getting used to the place and its cultures.

• If you use the local metro transportation, look for women carriages and sit there. You can always use the Uber. It’s safer than the taxi.

• Before you are in Egypt, make sure you arrange an accommodation in clean and safe neighborhoods. It doesn’t matter if you are renting a house or very simple a room in a hotel. What matters is how well reputed the place you are staying at.

Another thing you can do before you travel to your planned destination, have a look at Cairo 360. It provides you with all possible local information you need to know and gives you great tips on where and what you can do while in Egypt.
